We thought long and hard about the theme for this month's issue of 31. What goes well with Autumn? we asked. Gratitude, of course, but we did that last year. Pumpkins, seasons, change, cooler weather, Halloween.... These all seemed a little too "Good Housekeeping" for an issue of 31. In the end, we settled on Honesty, a value that permeates all our lives on a daily basis. Whether you're dealing with your kids, your boss, your co-workers, your spouse, your family members, your friends, the checker in the grocery store, or the cable guy, every day you're forced to make choices about honesty.
What does it mean to be honest? What are the consequences for not being honest? Can we be polite all the time and still be scrupulously honest?
These and other issues come to the front in our offerings this issue. Leilani Grossbauer tackles the issue of honesty head-on with her article for husbands, What Every Man Should Know About Women. Holly Beal reveals what goes on in her head when she's feeling the burn doing TaeBo in Conversations With Billy Blanks. Amanda Toronto must be honest with herself regarding what she needs and what she can do without in Moving Away, Moving Toward. Marni Myers shares a humorous scene from her childhood in My First Crush. And check back towards the end of the month for a frank discussion from Claire Roberts about what it means to be honest in, The Trouble With Honesty.
As usual, we also have a fantastic column by Angie, part two of her series on puppy love, complete with photos of her adorable pooches, as well as an easy-to-understand, entertaining explanation of subject-verb agreement from the Grammarian. The Sassy Chef doesn't fail to please either, offering a recipe for bread that you can serve with virtually anything.
We're telling the truth when we say we'd love to hear from you. Send your feedback to thirtyonemag@yahoo.com. Happy Autumn!
