The
Bod Squad
By Melissa Busse
aaaa n
this issue, The Bod Squad tackles the "calories in vs. calories out"
aspect of food. Calories (kCal) are a unit of energy. Unfortunately, finding
the balance of taking in the right amount of energy, or calories, for
our activities is a tricky proposition. It depends on our size, our activity
level and a host of other factors. Women tend to either take in more than
they need to "treat" themselves or conversely, withhold their
intake (or over-exercise) to maintain their beholdenness to the Bikini
and Skinny Jeans Gods.
aaaaFor curiosity's sake, let's take a look
at some energy comparisons of foods and activities that give/burn an equal
number of calories. You'll get a better idea of how many laps you should
be running to burn off your addiction to ice creams that only come in
pint-sized containers (and I know that you know what I mean). You might
be surprised.
